I would recommend they ask if they could get tires other than low-profile tires, which wear-out and blow-out more frequently because of potholes. I would point out that one bad thing about the car is that it has a poorly designed front end without the bumper protection needed to keep the very exposed, cheaply made plastic grill from getting broken when cars back up into it (which p*ss*s me off because my '04 Elantra GT had a decent bumper with a rubber strip on it.). Other than that, I like the car...so far...and think it's a good choice that has a sporty feel, good power, and nice exterior/interior design and roomy cargo area. Reliability is also expected to be good. Make Hyundai redesign their front end with a bumper that protects the cheap, highly breakable plastic grill. If they want to keep that look, however, make the grill out of a hard rubber so that it's resilient in the event a car backs into it ( a pickup with a trailer hitched backed up and punctured my grill recently and those things aren't cheap to repair). Also, I thought it was a cheap moveon Hyundai's part not to have LED lights for both the headlights and the lower running lights on my base Elantra GT. And safety features like lane departure and collision warnings aren't standard on the car while they are on the equivalent Toyota hatchback, if I'm not mistaken. Electronics like that aren't going to add that much to the price of the car and would add to sales appeal and resale value.

I really like the direction Hyundai went in with the Sport Elantra and hope the reports are right that this may be the start of a new performance line for them.

2018 elantra: God little car, I average 40 mpg, a little gutless on the takeoff, but excels on the freeway. Windshield is a rock magnet, multiple chips and cracks. Decent suspension, sub par audio, comfortable seats, roomy enough for 5 comfortably, impressive trunk space. I put 16k miles on mine in 6 months. I would recommend this car for a solid commuter at a decent price. Make a wind guard to deflect rocks from windshield and publish oil filter size for wrench
