Hybrid power train. Design, materials, fit and finish are impeccable. Safety features -- best 360 camera we've seen (and we've seen the Audi and BMW versions); engine braking mode is excellent for slippery conditions in the NE. Ability to change drive mode on the fly; ability to hold battery charge to use when you want, or use the engine to charge the battery when speeding down the Interstate. Very powerful drive train combining super and turbochargers with battery; awesome acceleration without being as jumpy as the prior version of gas-only model in dynamic mode. Excellent sound with high-end audio system with customizable settings. Heated and ventilated seats. Air suspension system works well to absorb all but the worst potholes. Quiet cabin, esp. when running in electric mode -- spooky silent. Good passenger room. Flat cargo space when seats folded down. Excellent app for remote starts with pre-heating or cooling, and status checks (is the battery charged yet?). Free routine maintenance for 3 years.
cons
At this price point, we expect near perfection. The engine should run more smoothly with less vibration felt in seats, and cornering in Sport/Power mode should be tighter. We also feel that the steering wheel setting should be electronic and linked to the Driver 1 or 2 settings memory. Actual buttons or a rotator knob for the fan speed and air direction would be optimal in addition to touch screen. No spare tire, nor does it come with run flat tires. Volvo basically expects you to call for assistance if you get a flat. Final fussy point is that there should be greater capacity (i.e., more miles) in pure electric mode. 20 miles is pretty slim for this expensive of a PHEV.
