Overview

The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9 delivers three rows of seating with proper SUV utility in a stylish, efficient electric crossover. As the third model in the Korean brand's proven Ioniq lineup of EVs, the new Ioniq 9 should be an ideal choice for the EV buyer who needs family-sized transportation. The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a 6-seater vehicle that comes in 6 trim levels. The most popular style is the SEL AWD, which starts at $67,920 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive.

Overall Assessment

Hyundai has fully embraced electrification with hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles. The all-new 2026 Ioniq 9 takes its place at the top of the Hyundai EV model lineup, joining the Ioniq 5 compact crossover and Ioniq 6 premium sedan.

Built on Hyundai's E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), the new Ioniq 9 is the brand's largest EV with seating for up to seven passengers in a roomy, comfortable cabin. While the overall dimensions of the Ioniq 9 are similar to the gas-powered Hyundai Palisade, the electric powertrain allows for a much longer wheelbase, improving interior space and drivability.

The Ioniq 9 will be available with single-motor rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrains. A Performance version boasting 422 horsepower will also be offered, making it one of Hyundai's most powerful vehicles. Hyundai expects the Ioniq 9 to have a maximum range of 335 miles, with every trim getting at least 300 miles on a charge. Charging from 10% to 80% on a DC fast charger should take about 25 minutes.

With only a handful of three-row electric vehicles available, the Ioniq 9 will be vying for a piece of a rather small pie. Rivals include the Rivian R1S, and the Hyundai’s cousin, the Kia EV9. While the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz also offers three rows of seats, it is more minivan than SUV, so it is an outlier but still could be considered an alternative to the Ioniq 9.

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 goes into production in the Spring of 2025 at the Korean brand's new facility in Bryan County, Georgia.

Overview

With fresh styling, a premium-looking cabin, a range of new features, and excellent driving dynamics, the 2025 Kia K4 is a step up from the Forte it replaces. The Kia K4 is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 5 trim levels. The most popular style is the LXS, which starts at $24,185 and comes with a 2.0L I4 engine and Front Wheel Drive. This K4 is estimated to deliver 29 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Kia continues to refresh its lineup and sedan naming convention with the all-new K4. Replacing the Kia Forte, the K4 slots into the lineup below the K5. With the subcompact Rio ending production, the K4 is now the entry point into Kia's sedan lineup.

The K4 compact sedan is longer and wider than its predecessor. Vertically oriented LED headlights and taillights give the K4 a new look that aligns with the updates to the 2025 Kia K5. Up front is the signature Tiger Nose grille and updated fascia that gets a distinctive look on the GT-line trims. The K4 has the look of a fastback, but, like the K5, it features a conventional trunk. Kia says a five-door K4 hatchback will join the lineup by the end of 2025.

Significant updates are found in the K4's cabin, where a new display screen, measuring almost 30 inches, houses the digital driver's display, updated infotainment system, and climate function display. The increased dimensions translate to a roomier interior, giving rear-seat passengers more legroom and headroom than in the outgoing Forte.

The fresh styling inside and out, excellent driving dynamics, and an available turbocharged engine make the K4 a strong competitor in a crowded compact car segment that includes such heavy hitters as the Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, and Toyota Corolla.

Overview

Hyundai's best-selling Tucson is an excellent compact SUV, and for 2025 it just gets better. With fresh styling, a significantly updated interior, and available hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the refreshed 2025 Tucson should continue to be a popular choice. The Hyundai Tucson is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 11 trim levels. The most popular style is the Hybrid SEL Convenience AWD, which starts at $37,960 and comes with a Hybrid 1.6L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Tucson is estimated to deliver 37 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

It has been 20 years since Hyundai introduced an all-new SUV called the Tucson. It had a slow beginning, but the Tucson has become one of the best-selling SUVs in the United States. The five-passenger crossover is also Hyundai’s top seller, with record yearly sales since the fourth generation was introduced in 2020. The Korean brand expects this success to continue for the significantly updated 2025 Tucson.

While the dimensions remain unchanged, the 2025 Hyundai Tucson features fresh exterior styling and a revised, high-tech interior with a large curved screen encompassing the driver's display and infotainment system. The new display, combined with a complete revamp of the dashboard, center console, and steering wheel, gives the cabin a premium vibe. There are also several new features,t including adjustable regenerative braking on the HEV/PHEV versions, as well as Baby Mode, which optimizes the throttle and braking when you're driving with an infant on board.

The Tucson, which sits between the Kona and Santa Fe in the Hyundai lineup, is one of the few models sold in the U.S. that offers a choice of internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid (HEV), or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. This flexibility, combined with its spacious interior, expansive cargo bay, and excellent driving characteristics, has helped Tucson maintain its top-selling position. But the competition is fierce in this popular segment, with solid offerings in the Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Kia Sportage (the Tucson's corporate cousin).

Overview

The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster is a modern interpretation of a classic. Just be prepared to pay more for the privilege. The INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Trialmaster Edition, which starts at $94,500 and comes with a 3.0L I6 Turbo engine and Four Wheel Drive. This Grenadier Quartermaster is estimated to deliver 14 MPG in the city and 14 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

What is the 2025 Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster? It's the second vehicle from the new carmaker Ineos, founded by a billionaire chemical magnate who also owns the Belstaff clothing label and sponsors an Americas Cup yacht. The Quartermaster is the pickup truck version of the Grenadier Station Wagon, which is actually an SUV. They both have strong visual ties to the classic Land Rover Defender but have no formal association.

Unlike other billionaire-financed projects, the Grenadier models are powered by BMW-sourced internal combustion engines instead of fully electric powertrains. They're also intended for legitimate off-road adventures rather than cruising city boulevards, and as a result, they can feel rather primitive on pavement. For buyers with a penchant for exploring, that's fine, but they could be in for a bit of sticker shock.

The Grenadier Quartermaster has a starting price shy of $90,000, which is well beyond what we'd expect for a midsize pickup truck. Sure, you'll get a unique rig that will stand out from other rock crawlers, but we expect more comfort and technology at that price. And due to a 25% tariff on imported light trucks, the Quartermaster costs about $15,000 more than its SUV sibling. That's a tough pill to swallow, but if you have the money and want a pickup with this aesthetic, there isn't any other choice.

See owner reviews for Hyundai Kona Electric.

Overview

As one of the more affordable electric vehicles on the market, the 2025 Hyundai Kona EV offers a great combination of utility, performance, and features for its low price. It's not the fastest or most luxurious, but its practicality is hard to beat. The Hyundai Kona Electric is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 4 trim levels. The most popular style is the SEL FWD, which starts at $38,470 and comes with an Electric engine and Front Wheel Drive. This Kona Electric is estimated to deliver 129 MPGe in the city and 103 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

After a full redesign last year, the 2025 Hyundai Kona EV heads into its second year as one of the more affordable battery electric vehicles on the market. The bold styling hints at the fact that this is no ordinary four-door hatchback, yet from behind the wheel, the Kona EV feels like a practical daily driver that's easy to live with.

Available with a choice of two battery packs, the base Kona EV has an estimated range of 200 miles. That's less than some competitors, but still more than enough to run daily errands and other short trips around town. With the standard battery, the Kona EV's single electric motor is rated at 133 horsepower, delivering adequate but not exciting performance levels. Those who would prefer better overall performance can choose the upgraded battery pack, which bumps the horsepower number to 201 and extends the range to 261 miles. The added power gives the Kona improved acceleration, but it's still not very fast for an EV. Regardless of which battery pack it has, the Kona rides comfortably and remains quiet at any speed.

The latest interior design is the Kona's strong point; it feels spacious and modern. All the controls are easily accessed, and the clean, uncluttered design makes it look like a more expensive car. Passenger space is another bright spot, as the Kona can comfortably fit four adults. Behind the seats is a useful cargo area, with just over 25 cubic feet of space. Like most Hyundai models, the Kona has a solid list of standard features, even in the base model. The higher trim levels add features such as heated and cooled seats, premium audio systems, and adjustable cabin lighting. Competition in this class is limited to a handful of players, including the Kia Niro, Nissan Leaf, and Volvo EX30.

Overview

The Ineos Grenadier is an off-road SUV designed to be a rugged and modern replacement for the classic Land Rover Defender. It features a boxy design, a powerful BMW engine, and strong off-road capabilities, though this loyalty to classic design brings with it outdated fuel economy. The most popular style is the Fieldmaster Edition, which starts at $88,500 and comes with a 3.0L I6 Turbo engine and Four Wheel Drive. Overview

Packing a lot of value and impressive fuel efficiency into a small package, the 2025 Kia Niro is an excellent compact SUV, especially in its lower trim levels. The Kia Niro is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 7 trim levels. The most popular style is the Hybrid EX, which starts at $31,235 and comes with a Hybrid 1.6L I4 engine and Front Wheel Drive. This Niro is estimated to deliver 53 MPG in the city and 54 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The 2025 Kia Niro offers impressive fuel economy and a spacious interior in a compact, well-priced package. Available as a standard hybrid, a plug-in hybrid with 33 miles of EV range, or as a full EV (reviewed separately), the Niro is one of the smallest vehicles Kia offers. Standard Niro hybrid models have fuel economy ratings as high as 53 mpg, while the plug-in hybrid offers enough electric range for most daily commutes.

If you’re looking for value, the Niro’s base trim level delivers plenty, with a price tag under $30K and a long list of standard features. Equipment like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard, along with such safety aids as forward collision warning and lane-keeping assist. What’s more, the Niro is spacious inside considering its scant exterior dimensions. Adults will have no trouble fitting in the front and rear seats.

Price-conscious shoppers should know that the Niro’s upper trim levels aren't as much of a bargain. While they are reasonably equipped, the top trim levels don’t offer the same level of refinement as non-hybrid competitors such as the Mazda CX-30 and Honda HR-V. The Toyota Corolla Cross is another small SUV worth considering, with fuel economy ratings as high as 42 mpg and competitive pricing.

Overview

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a five-seat electric sedan that looks like nothing else on the road. Its swoopy aerodynamic design reduces rear headroom but helps provide an impressive driving range. Overall, it is a welcome alternative to electric SUVs that dominate the market. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 4 trim levels. The most popular style is the SEL RWD, which starts at $46,845 and comes with an Electric engine and Rear Wheel Drive. This IONIQ 6 is estimated to deliver 123 MPGe in the city and 100 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Hyundai's Ioniq 6 electric sedan picked up steam in 2024, and the company has decided to leave a good thing virtually unchanged for 2025. The streamlined, midsize four-door offers an alternative to SUVs and boxy crossovers, along with a range — up to 342 miles in front-wheel-drive models — that few competitors in its reasonable price range can match.

The Ioniq 6 shares its platform and powertrain with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover, but its styling cuts down on interior space, especially in the rear seating area. Cargo capacity is lower than in the boxy, SUV-styled Ioniq 5 as well.

Sedans have fallen out of favor in the U.S., so the Ioniq 6 has few direct rivals. Competition includes the Tesla Model 3 sedan, Ford Mustang Mach-E coupe-like crossover, Polestar 2 hatchback sedan, and BMW i4 sedan. Overall, the Ioniq 6 is longer than any other electric sedan in its price range, and only the wider and taller Mach-E has more total passenger space. The Hyundai also falls short in cargo space and horsepower but still has plenty of oomph and a more comfortable, composed ride than most of the competition.

The only other drawback is that as a Korean-built car, the Ioniq 6 doesn't qualify for a federal income tax credit while the Mustang Mach-E and Model 3, its two North American-built competitors, do. That means both cost less when the tax credit is applied. Other potential rivals cost more and, like the Hyundai, don't qualify for the federal tax credit because they are built overseas.

Overview

The 2025 Genesis GV60 is basically a $60,000 luxury hatchback, which may not appeal to budget-conscious buyers. It really is luxurious, though, with great tech, lovely materials, and a refined driving experience. The Genesis GV60 is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Standard RWD, which starts at $53,845 and comes with an Electric engine and Rear Wheel Drive. This GV60 is estimated to deliver 125 MPGe in the city and 99 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The 2025 Genesis GV60 is a different sort of electric vehicle in more ways than one. Its body style, for starters, makes it look like a hatchback from afar — hardly the most appealing vehicle type for American luxury buyers. Get closer, though, and you’ll realize its dimensions are actually similar to a midsize SUV.

Get even closer and the doors will unlock just by staring at a camera in the B pillar. You can turn the car on with your fingerprint, too, which not only activates the electric motor(s) but the rotating glowing orb that’s used to shift the car into gear. Once comfortably seated in the sumptuously adjustable driver's seat, you’ll notice a cabin that most definitely doesn’t belong to a humble hatchback. It’s stylish, packed with bold screens, and lined in rich materials. The cabins of similarly priced luxury EVs are on the entry-level ends of their respective brands with plenty of iffy plastics about. There’s nothing entry level in the look or feel of the GV60.

Considering the look and the high-lux interior, you’re probably not expecting acceleration that knocks your socks off, but that’s just what can happen in the GV60 Performance that can hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Pressing the little yellow button on the steering wheel feels like someone just gave the accelerator pedal four shots of espresso. Lesser versions can’t match that performance (and get better range as a result), but apart from the rear-motor Standard version, performance shouldn’t disappoint. Range may, however, as there are certainly competitors that can go farther, most notably the similarly priced Cadillac Lyriq.

Finally, the GV60 is a bit of an oddball because of its price. It costs as much or more than the top trim levels of mainstream-brand EVs like the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Ford Mustang Mach-E, plus its mechanically related siblings, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. If you don’t care so much about the GV60’s luxurious trappings and extra-loaded feature content, one of those could be a better bet. At the same time, luxury brand competitors apart from the Lyriq deliver less space and luxury for the money (such as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Mercedes EQB), or cost substantially more (such as the Mercedes EQE SUV or Porsche Macan Electric.

Vehicles this different don’t tend to be the biggest sellers, but they can also be incredibly memorable and fun to experience on a daily basis. That’s definitely the case with the 2025 Genesis GV60.

Overview

The stylish 2026 Kia Sportage offers up surprising interior space and comfort for a compact crossover. With its low starting price and fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the Sportage is an excellent choice among the many five-passenger SUVs. The Kia Sportage is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 11 trim levels. The most popular style is the EX FWD, which starts at $31,935 and comes with a 2.5L I4 engine and Front Wheel Drive. This Sportage is estimated to deliver 25 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The Kia Sportage has been a mainstay of the Korean brand since it was introduced almost 40 years ago, and the compact crossover is Kia’s best-selling model by a wide margin. Now in its fifth generation, the Sportage gets a significant refresh for the 2026 model year, which should help it keep that sales crown.

With updated styling inside and out for the new model year, the Sportage has an upscale vibe that stands above the typical compact crossover. Kia offers the Sportage in a wide range of trim levels, and even the base-level LX comes well equipped with popular features like Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and an intuitive infotainment system displayed on a 12.3-inch screen. For those looking for a bit more adventure off the beaten path, Kia offers the Sportage X-Line and X-Pro variants.

Sportage buyers can also choose from three distinct powertrains. These include fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems, the latter offering 34 miles of electric-only driving range.

It may be small on the outside, but the Sportage boasts excellent cabin space and utility. There’s an impressive 39.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row of seats — that’s slightly more than the popular Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue. It’s also more than a Toyota RAV4, and significantly more than a Subaru Forester or Mazda CX-5. All-wheel-drive versions of the Sportage even boast 8.3 inches of ground clearance — that’s higher than the standard Ford Bronco Sport.

The Sportage was already an excellent choice among compact crossovers, and the updated features and fresh styling on the 2026 model should make it more desirable when it arrives in the second quarter of 2025.

Overview

There are certainly more cost-effective choices out there, but the Kia EV6 remains one of the most competitive and appealing electric vehicles on the market. It checks off most of the boxes while looking great doing it. The Kia EV6 is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 5 trim levels. The most popular style is the Wind RWD, which starts at $51,795 and comes with an Electric engine and Rear Wheel Drive. This EV6 is estimated to deliver 128 MPGe in the city and 101 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The Kia EV6 made waves when it arrived three years ago, showing that you didn’t have to spend six digits in order to get a cool-looking electric car. Part SUV, part hatchback, part wagon, its body style defied description and disguised what are surprisingly large dimensions. Its range, performance, and especially charging specs were exceptional. That all continues for the 2025 Kia EV6, which receives its first significant update since that introduction.

Bigger battery packs are the headline, although we didn’t know at the time of this writing just how much of an improvement there would be. Kia said the rear-drive EV6 with the long-range battery will go an extra 9 miles, so don’t expect big-time improvements. The EV6 GT, on the other hand, does get a big-time performance bump to over 600 horsepower. It also boasts simulated gear shifts like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. All trim levels but the GT now get Tesla-style NACS charge ports located on the left-rear fender.

The interior sees Kia’s latest interface added with mixed results, plus a few new details, but ultimately, the EV6 is just as appealing and competitive as ever. The cabin is equal parts style and function, with a much higher build quality than what you’ll find in a Tesla Model Y or Volkswagen ID.4.

One key update for 2025 is where the EV6 is built. With production of all but the GT moving to West Point, Georgia, the EV6 could theoretically be eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit. That wasn’t known for sure at the time of this writing and new government priorities may nix such tax credits altogether, but the credit could make the EV6 far more competitive. As it stands, those on a tighter budget would be wise to consider the Model Y or the impressive Chevrolet Equinox EV, which boast stronger range and performance for the same money as the EV6’s lower trims.
